Have you ever felt really, really scared and excited at the same time? We have all felt this at some time in our life, but right now I have these feelings swarming around me amplified by 10 all of the time. The last couple of months have brought a lot of not knowing and confusion to our lives. When Landon got his grades from this last semester and we realized that we needed to let go of the counseling degree (at least for now) it brought with it a very exciting, yet scary realization for us. We have spent our entire married life, and even before that, waiting for school to be over. We have been the perpetual student family, poor and waiting for life to begin when the degree was done. The last few years especially have been really hard as we have watched others around us seem to move forward with job and career and we have felt stagnant waiting for our turn. With the end of the pursuit of school it has now become our turn.
While not getting the Masters Degree has been a little devastating, more humiliating to Landon than just about anything, it has also been freeing. We have not been left without options, we have just now had our eyes opened to them.
Landon started working with FedEx right before Ellen was born. It was just supposed to be a part-time job to help him get through school while I worked full time. Shortly after the birth of Ellen we discovered that I hated being a working Mommy and FedEx was a really good, steady position. He stayed on with FedEx as a package handler for 3 years before he finally decided to pursue a promotion with them. He applied, and felt very guided by the spirit in his interview, for a position as a part-time manager. It has been one of the best things that has ever happened to us. We decided to look at the ending of the pursuit of the degree as not throwing away all of the years of school, but that we instead are not throwing away 6 years of work with a company.
So, in January the pursuit for a job began. He has applied for a lot of positions, not just with FedEx but with other companies as well. He has interviewed for a couple of jobs over the last few months and was even offered one position, in Yakima, WA, that we felt was not the right fit for us. We instead opted to wait and apply for a position in the Salt Lake HD terminal.
I am glad to say that all of that hard work and the gamble of turning down another job has finally paid off. We got it!!!!! Landon was offered the job as the P&D Coordinator for FedEx Home Delivery in Salt Lake. We are hoping to be able to buy a house in Tooele. That would make his commute only about 25 minutes and get us out of the heart of Salt Lake. I personally am scared to death to move away from Pocatello, the only home I have ever known, but at the same time excited to start this new adventure in our life.
So, here’s to moving on.
